Pool Cover NJ Options: Which is Best for You?
You have a couple of options when it comes to pool cover materials. We sell and install both solid vinyl and mesh inground winter pool covers. Perhaps you only have a flimsy tarp style cover and are looking to upgrade to a high-strength security type style for your peace of mind. It’s time you invested in a high-quality cover that will last decades if taken care of properly. But how do you know which type to choose? Our technicians can guide you through the pros and cons of each.
Mesh covers tend to be more affordable than vinyl; however, in many cases, they tend to last longer. A typical lifespan for mesh is about 10 to 15 years, while vinyl is about seven to 11. Mesh covers don’t require a pump on top, as the water passes through the tiny holes. This is a big benefit, as pumps can burn out quite quickly if overused. Mesh covers come with very little maintenance requirements. They also feature a lightweight material that is easy to put on and off. With solid vinyl, it often times takes two people at least for installation and uncovering.
Solid vinyl covers also have their advantages, with the main one being that sunlight is unable to pass through. When pool water is exposed to sunlight during the warm spring months, it can harbor algae which can grow on the walls. You don’t have to open your pool quite as early with a solid cover as opposed to a mesh one. Solid vinyl covers also keep rain water and debris out of the pool so the water stays clean. As a result, you don’t have to spend a lot of time in the spring brushing the walls, running the filter, vacuuming out the pool, and the like.
